Stuck

Okay, this is embarrassing, but if you can't laugh at yourself then...
Jon and Sam had been playing together in the basement in the "playroom" and I had been down there. I was getting ready to go upstairs and throw some lunch together, so they requested that I put a DVD on for them. I did, Sam climbed up into this little desk chair to watch and a few minutes later Jon came upstairs. Jon played quietly by himself while I finished making lunch. I thought it was a little weird that Sam stayed downstairs--he's so social and almost never plays by himself--but was glad for the quiet (I had a headache that was still lingering a little). Anyway, Jon went ahead and ate, and I figured if Sam was playing well by himself I'd let him go a little longer. Finally after about 25 minutes (I'm terrible, I really shouldn't have waited that long!) I went down to see what he was up to...he was still in the chair and the minute he saw me he burst out crying and said "stuck." Oops. He couldn't get down, or at least he didn't think so. After I held him for a minute or two, he was fine and wanted to go find Jon and get some food. I'm sure he won't even remember this, but it's one of those mom moments that you feel like such a dork. I should know my son well enough to know that if Jon and I are both upstairs that he's not going to stay downstairs. Ah...live and learn, right?

The things he says...

Jon has been cracking me up lately...here's a sampling:
“can you take these down to the kitchen, because these are a fooood item”
“sometimes people like to eat these (chese rice cakes) for breakfast…sometimes.”
“Promise that you’ll never pick up a jacket again.” (I wish!)
“Promise that you’ll never knock the cars into the bathtub again.”
“I wanna tell ya something…I was thinkin’ we could go outside today?”
"The made a mistake, they didn't let me fill up the water cup and it made me SOOOO sad."
"Thank you, Daddy, for getting Mommy flowers. They have my favorite color." (the funniest part here was that he said thanks to Pete before I could!)
"Your movie is toooo loud. Promise me that you won't watch movies ever again." (we're not sure where this promise theme came from!?)
"I beat Sam! I beat Sam awake! Yay Jon! Yay Jon!" (Yes, he's a bit competitive like his dad and thinks that everything is a contest, even who wakes up first...a contest that I'd gladly lose!)

Sam's skills and Jon's...

well, Jon's backside! Here's a clip from this morning. I was trying to show off how well Sam is doing with his spoon. Just a few days ago, he wouldn't eat at dinner, which is HIGHLY unusual. We call him our scavenger, so we were a little puzzled when he wouldn't eat. Then he pointed at the bowl and spoon and was saying something over and over again. (gotta love that about this age...they're trying desperately to communicate and you are trying desperately to understand, but you seriously need a magic decoder ring 80% of the time!) Anyway, we finally gave him a little bowl of corn and his own spoon and he ate the entire bowl with the spoon! It was amazing. Ever since then, he's been eating everything he can with a spoon. So fun, but I think Jon may have stolen the show...check it out:

Fly on the Wall

My friend, Jen, often posts blogs like this and I always get a good laugh out of them, so I thought I'd steal the title and do one of my own. Here are some things you might overhear around here: Jon, not wanting to try his 3 bites of dinner: "I'm a little bit shy of ziti" Sam, after Jon takes a toy from him this afternoon, "No, No! No, NO!" Jon's response to my stern voice, "I don't like when you talk like that" Jon on his way to his room after being disobedient, in a whiny voice, "Oh, bummer...what will I do now!" The highlight of the day, when my friend, Tina, was thanking Jon for being kind to his buddy, Noah and being a good friend, he said, "We're supposed ta do everything without complaining or arguing." (YAY--he remembered a Bible verse and applied it!!! Don't worry, he made up for it latter with much complaining and arguing, but...we'll take what we can get!) there's much more, but that'll be it for now Jen also has a "Not Me" post that she does that is hilarious...I've been compiling my list and will definitely blog a "Not Me" post soon. For now, here's just a couple to wet your appetite. ~I did not wipe the dirt out of a snack bowl today and then put Sam's snack in it, instead of washing it out. Not me, I wouldn't do that. I got him a clean one like a good mother. ~I did not hear Sam awake in his crib at 3:15pm, but leave him in there until 3:45pm so that I could have just a little bit more time to myself. Not me, I got him right out and played educational games for that half an hour. ;)
